Si sono tenute oggi le nomination all'86esima edizione degli Academy Awards. Alle 14:40 ora italiana (erano le  5:40 del mattino a Los Angeles) Chris Hemsworth e la presidente dell'Academy Cheryl Boone Isaacs hanno elencato i film che sono stati candidati all'Oscar.

La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà poi il 2 marzo al Dolby Theatre dell'Hollywood & Highland Center. La serata verrà condotta da Ellen DeGeneres e trasmessa negli USA dalla ABC, in Italia da Sky (che aprirà un canale apposito dedicato agli Oscar). A produrre la cerimonia vi sono Craig Zadan e Neil Meron, la serata sarà incentrata sul tema degli "eroi cinematografici".

Alcune considerazioni sulle nomination:

  • Il 2013 è stato un anno straordinario al cinema e la competizione, su tantissimi fronti, è stata davvero alta. Era qualche anno che non si arrivava alla vigilia degli Oscar con sì la certezza che alcuni film avrebbero ottenuto tante candidature, ma anche con diversi dubbi sul resto per via del gran numero di film di qualità che potevano concorrere alle varie nomination.
  • E' il terzo anno consecutivo che la categoria "miglior film" è composta da nove film.
  • American Hustle e Gravity guidano la lista con 10 candidature ciascuno, 12 Anni Schiavo ne ottiene nove. Catpain Phillips, Nebraska e Dallas Buyers Club sei; Her, The Wolf of Wall Street cinque; Philomena quattro.
  • Grandi delusioni: Tra le delusioni, colpisce l'assenza di nomination per Fruitvale Station, grande successo al Sundance (lo rivedremo agli Independent Spirit Awards), così come la quasi assenza di I Segreti di Osage County. Blackfish non è stato nominato come miglior documentario, Rush non ha ottenuto alcuna nomination, A Proposito di Davis dei Fratelli Coen solo due (minori), Saving Mr. Banks solo una, uno dei favoriti come The Butler non ha preso nemmeno una nomination. Sul fronte delle performance colpisce l'assenza di Robert Redford, Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, Daniel Bruhl e Oprah Winfrey dalla lista dei nominati. Non sono stati nominati nemmeno Paul Greengrass (regia) e Idris Elba (attore), tra i favoriti. Grande delusione sul fronte Pixar (che nel 2014 non avrà un film al cinema e nel 2015 ne avrà due): nessuna nomination a Monsters University. Colpisce anche l'assenza di Her nella categoria miglior fotografia.
  • Il caso di Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks e Daniel Bruhl è particolare: hanno ottenuto nomination ai BAFTA, ai SAG, ai Globes e ai Critics Choice, è raro che attori che vengono nominati a tutti e quattro questi premi poi saltino gli Oscar.
  • Sorprese: Jackass: Nonno Cattivo nominato per il miglior makeup (non c'è La Casa, per la cronaca), The Grandmaster nominato in alcune categorie ma NON in quella di miglior film straniero.
  • 11esima nomination per Roger Deakins come miglior direttore della fotografia e 12esima nomination per Thomas Newman come miglior colonna sonora (nessuno dei due ha mai vinto un'Oscar), la 44esima per John Williams per la colonna sonora (sorpassa Alfred Newman come il compositore più nominato) e 49 complessive (è il secondo dopo Walt Disney ad aver avuto il maggior numero di nomination). 18esima nomination per Meryl Streep, 16esima nomination come miglior sceneggiatura originale per Woody Allen (24esima complessiva), è lo sceneggiatore più nominato di sempre. E' il secondo anno di fila che un film di David O. Russell ottiene quattro nomination per le performance (una per categoria: attore, attrice, attore non protagonista, attrice non protagonista): solo 15 film nella storia hanno ottenuto lo stesso risultato. Nebraska è l'ottavo film dal 1970 girato prevalentemente in bianco e nero a ottenere una nomination come miglior film. Gravity è il quinto film ad aver ottenuto nomination in tutte sette le categorie tecniche. Ben 17 nomination complessive per la piccola (ma agguerritissima) Annapurna Pictures della 27enne Megan Ellison: la produttrice è la quarta nella storia ad aver ottenuto più di una nomination come Miglior Film dal 1951.
  • Con La Grande Bellezza l'Italia arriva a 28 film nominati nella sua storia, seconda solo alla Francia (36). I due Paesi hanno avuto entrambi 13 vittorie agli Oscar.
