È con le nomination alla trentesima edizione degli Independent Spirit Awards che parte la Awards Season del 2015. Ironicamente perché, assegnati tradizionalmente 24 ore prima degli Academy Awards e organizzati dalla Film Independent (associazione nonprofit a sostegno delle arti), hanno poco a che fare con Hollywood e si preoccupano di premiare il cinema indipendente americano – anche se spesso finiscono per avere molti nominati e premiati in comune con i ben più blasonati Oscar.

A guidare le nomination quest’anno Birdman di Alejandro G. Inarritu, presentato al Festival di Venezia, con sei nomination (miglior film, regista, montaggio e tre categorie recitative, ma NON fotografia). Boyhood, Nightcrawler – Lo Sciacallo e Selma ottengono cinque nomination ciascuno, mentre Vizio di Forma riceverà il premio speciale Robert Altman.
