Gavin MacLeod è morto a 90 anni: addio al Capitano Stubing di Love Boat

Gavin MacLeod, attore caratterista noto per aver interpretato Happy Haynes in Un equipaggio tutto matto, Murray in Mary Tyler Moore e soprattutto il Capitano Merrill Stubing in Love Boat, è morto a 90 anni.

A dare la notizia il nipote Mark See: non è stata riferita una causa della morte, ma negli ultimi mesi la sua salute era peggiorata.

Molti i tributi usciti nelle ultime ore, segnaliamo quello di Ed Asner del cast di Mary Tyler Moore:

MacLeod inizialmente doveva interpretare la parte di Lou Grant, che venne poi affidata a Ed Asner. Ma fu nel 1977, alla fine di Mary Tyler Moore, che la popolarità dell'attore raggiunse l'apice grazie a Love Boat. Passò dai 168 episodi della prima serie ai 249 episodi della seconda, diventando con il ruolo del Capitano Stubing una vera e propria icona, tanto che quando la serie terminò fu scelto come testimonial delle crociere Princess Cruises. MacLeod interpretò nuovamente Stubing nel film tv The Love Boat: a Valentine Voyage (1990) e parteciò alla reunion nel revival del 1998. Nel 2013, nella trasmissione The Talk, il cast si riunì un'ultima volta.

Negli ultimi vent'anni si era sostanzialmente ritirato dalle scene, anche se nel 2000 è comparso nel dramma Oz sulla HBO nei panni del cardinale cattolico Frances Abgott. È anche comparso come guest star in altre serie tv come JAG e Il tocco di un angelo.

Gavin MacLeod died this morning. He was so kind to me when I was younger & always let me come to the set of “The Love Boat” and just hang out and watch.
