Muhammad Ali, Hollywood reagisce alla morte del grande pugile

Si è spento ieri a 74 anni a causa del morbo di Parkinson che lo affliggeva da trent'anni (a causa dei troppi colpi ricevuti in testa) Muhammad Ali, tre volte campione mondiale dei pesi massimi nominato Sportivo del Secolo da Sports Illustrated nel 1999.

Il suo talento, il suo carisma e le sue posizioni politiche hanno reso Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr (cambiò nome nel 1964 dopo essersi unito alla Nazione dell'Islam) una vera icona della cultura pop ("la persona più riconoscibile al mondo") e uno degli sportivi celebrati da Hollywood. Numerosi i film a lui dedicati: da Io Sono il più Grande (1977), basato sulla sua autobiografia e interpretato da lui stesso, passando per il celebre documentario When We Were Kings di Leon Gast, vincitore del premio come miglior documentario nel 1996. Indimenticabile, poi, l'interpretazione di Will Smith nel biopic del 2001 Alì, diretto da Michael Mann: Smith ottenne una nomination all'Oscar assieme a Jon Voight. Ma negli anni settanta Ali partecipò anche ad altri progetti come attore: nel 1979 fu un senatore ex schiavo nel telefilm della NBC Freedom Road, basato su una storia vera, e nello stesso periodo doppiò un cartone animato su se stesso, I Am the Greatest!: the Adventures of Muhammad Ali.
