Guest at the table of Aurelio De Laurentiis' mansion, the rude Robert De Niro declared his fondness for Carlo Verdone's comedian skills, and showed an all italian warm and kind attitude .
The official sign on Robert De Niro's comeback to italian cinema, 34 years after Bernardo Bertolucci's Novecento, was a lunch at Aurelio De Laurentiis' villa (son of the great italian producer Dino De Laurentiis). Apart from the american star and the producer, other attendants at the table were italian actors Michele Placido, Monica Bellucci, Giovanni Veronesi (director of soon-to-come movie "Manual of Love 3") and co-protagonist Carlo Verdone.
Photos of the encounter were all around italian newspapers but what has been said during the meal was revealed only yesterday by Carlo Verdone in an interview with the audience, right after his last picture's open air screening organized by Agis-Anec (italian national association of distributors and theater owners). During the chat Verdone was asked by italian journalist and principal of cinema school NUCT, Francesco Alò, what did he talk about with De Niro and answered that most of the talking has been about their children, showing pictures and having a laugh. On the contrary of what journalist are used to experience when trying to interview De Niro, Verdone said: "He's a very nice man".
Carlo Verdone is one of the most important italian comedian, actors and directors, and collected throughout all his 30-years-long carreer several box office smash hits. Robert De Niro immediately acknowledged that while seeing some movies from his. "The strangest thing of all" said Carlo Verdone "is that Robert, one of my favourite actors of all time and a costant source of inspiration, asked me for a picture. He lent the camera to a guy and had this photo with me! And I thought that I was the one supposed to ask for that!". "I understood the reason of that only later" continued Verdone "he asked the director to see some of the movies we made and told me how was impressed by my comedian timing".
In Manual Of Love 3 Robert De Niro will perform as a divorced american teacher who works and lives in Italy (therefore he will be acting both in english and italian), leading one of the four chapters in which the movie is divided. Although Verdone will be starring in another chapter, the two will have a scene together: "As he said he was fond of my comedian skills I immediately told him we have to make something special out of our duet. And I think this is what is going to happen". Shooting of Manual Of Love 3 is scheduled to start on the 24th of September.
The two previous "Manual of Love" pics, always directed by Giovanni Veronesi, produced by Aurelio De Laurentiis and starred by Carlo Verdone and Monica Bellucci, opened in 2005 and 2007, scoring a combined $45 million at the Italian Box Office.
