Ha destato infatti particolare sorpresa tra gli addetti ai lavori, e non solo, la mancanza di Fargo tra i nominati. Una dichiarazione diffusa dal network ha chiarito la questione:
La rete ha inizialmente sottoposto Fargo nella categoria “long-form”, basandosi sul fatto che la sceneggiatura da dieci ore, scritta interamente da Noah Hawley, racconta una storia singola e autoconclusiva, e quindi Fargo è una miniserie. La WGA non la riconosce come tale perché Noah Hawley era identificato dalla dicitura “Creato per la televisione da” e quindi hanno detto che poteva solo essere considerata nella categoria drama.
Si tratta della stessa argomentazione per la quale True Detective è finito nella categoria drama. D’altra parte FX, che già in occasione degli Emmy e dei Golden Globe aveva presentato Fargo come una miniserie, non si è trovata d’accordo con le motivazioni espresse:
Visto che Fargo non è una serie drama, ma è una miniserie, FX ha preso la decisione di non sottoporre Noah Hawley e la sua brillante sceneggiatura all’attenzione dei WGA Awards.
