La stagione dei premi si prepara a entrare nel vivo: dopo la rassegna dei festival internazionali, i film che ambiscono a partecipare agli Oscar 2024 devono necessariamente passare dai premi della critica, che vengono annunciati nei mesi di novembre e dicembre. Si parte dalla 33 esima edizione dei Gotham Awards, i premi dedicati al cinema indipendente (anche se da quest’anno il limite dei 35 milioni di dollari di budget è stato cancellato: possono partecipare quindi anche pellicole come Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, Il colore viola, che però non sono stati iscritti. Barbie era stato iscritto e ha ottenuto una nomination). A dominare l’edizione di quest’anno All of Us Strangers (Estranei): il film di Andrew Haigh ha ottenuto quattro candidature, tra cui miglior film internazionale (è inglese). Ricordiamo che la pellicola è il film di chiusura dell’edizione 2023 di Alice nella città, alla Festa del Cinema di Roma. Dramma sovrannaturale basato sul romanzo Strangers, di Taichi Yamada, vede protagonisti il candidato all’Oscar Paul Mescal e Andrew Scott.

I film candidati vengono selezionati da comitati composti da critici e votati da lavoratori del mondo del cinema (registi, sceneggiatori, produttori etc). La cerimonia di premiazione si svolgerà lunedì 27 novembre al Cipriani Wall Street di New York City.

Ricordiamo che la stagione dei premi, almeno in questa prima fase, subirà l’influenza (anzi, la mancata influenza) dello sciopero degli attori, i quali al momento non possono promuovere i loro film a meno che non vi siano accordi ad interim in essere.
