Sono stati assegnati nelle ultime ore diversi premi della critica "locale" americana. Se a Boston a vincere il premio come miglior film è stato The Artist, con la regia assegnata a Martin Scorsese per Hugo Cabret e il premio come miglior attore a Brad Pitt per Moneyball, a Los Angeles la critica ha voluto premiare The Descendants come miglior film e la regia a Terrence Malick per The Tree of Life (già Runner-Up come miglior film). I critici online di New York si sono invece davvero affezionati a The Artist.
Come abbiamo già detto altre volte i premi della critica raramente danno indicazioni su quali film vinceranno agli Oscar, ma - mano a mano che si accumulano - segnalano le tendenze nei film che ottengono più riconoscimenti e che, inevitabilmente, si sono fatti notare e potrebbero ottenere delle nomination a fine gennaio.E' arrivata anche la top ten dell'American Film Institute, che segnala i dieci film di maggior rilievo usciti ogni anno (tra tutti potrebbe sembrare un pesce fuor d'acqua Bridesmaids, e tuttavia Melissa McCarthy come migliore attrice non protagonista ha vinto sia a Boston che ai New York Film Critics Online Awards, e a questo punto il Golden Globe sembra in tasca).
